Comments | Nebela carinata es una ameba del grupo de las Testacea (con caparazón), casi gigante -sobrepasa las 200 micras de longitud- que se desplaza lentamente entre los restos de musgo de las turberas, alimentándose de algas y de otros restos vegetales. Su teca en forma de pera está aplastada dorsoventralmente y rodeada por una especie de cresta (carena) en todo su contorno. Los pseudópodos le sirven para ir avanzando lentamente, fijarse al sustrato y capturar el alimento y en su interior se adivina el núcleo en la parte central y varias vacuolas digestivas, y, por lo que parece se ha alimentado bastante bien. La muestra sobre la que se ha tomado la fotografía procede de las turberas situadas en las inmediaciones de la Laguna de Peces. Se ha tomado a 400 aumentos empleando la técnica de contraste de interferencia.
